About

Hi, I'm Annette, the dyer behind Handful of Yarn!

Every couple of months I get the itch to create. Normally the ideas come 4 or 5 at a time and I chase them down best I can and get it out of my system. I've made felt toys for my kids, made them costumes, made things out of cardboard, tried a few different art mediums, done creative journaling . . . .  you get the idea.

In 2021 I stumbled onto knitting. We had just moved and I was in dire need of a relaxing hobby.  I've knit almost every day since. All the sudden my creative ideas all revolved around knitting and I taught myself how to do it. It was nerve racking and full of frustrations but I kept on surprising myself with what I was able to create.

When I discovered hand-dyed yarn it was the same thing - I knew this was something that I would love and if I gave myself the chance I could make my visions of colorways a reality. There is something so wonderful to me about combining beautiful yarn with the other things I'm fanatic about - games, shows, places, artwork, music. I saw dyers connecting with people who loved what they loved, no matter how obscure, and I wanted to do that.

My hope is that you're here because you found a connection with my yarn. There's lots of dyers out there and I appreciate all the support you give me. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for the amazing fiber community and how much they lift each other up, so thank you. People are pretty great, but yarn people are the best people.
